After Suleiman I died, the Ottoman Empire began to lose power. Soon afterwards, their military was defeated in 1571, during the Battle of Lepanto. After this, the Ottoman Empire had started a significant decline in control and power after many military defeats. The empire was fortunately restored for a short time in the mid-1600s, after they had successfully defeated some militaries in Persia and Venice. In 1699 the empire gradually started to lose territory and more power. During the 18th Century, the Ottomans began to decline quickly after the Russo-Turkish Wars. The struggling empire was still around until the mid-1800s. However, the Crimean War, which lasted from 1853-1856, further broke down the empire.
In the late 1800s, several rebellions had made the Ottoman Empire lose more of its territory. The Balkan Wars, which lasted from 1912-1913, had reduced the empire’s territory once again. After the end of World War 1, the last of the Empire had unfortunately and officially ended.
